A handbag is a very personal fashion statement that says a lot about the woman carrying it. What better way to make a statement than to craft your own crochet bag or purse with a pattern you love, the yarn you adore, in a style that is all you! A roundup of wonderful free and easy crochet bag and purse patterns are just the things to get your creative juices flowing! Enjoy;-)
Capri Circle Bag
The circle bag isn’t just this season’s must-have accessory – it’s a classic shape with timeless appeal that’s sure to be a staple for years to come. The simple construction and sophisticated look will have you whipping these up in every shade of the rainbow! You can find the free pattern here.
Malia Shoulder Bag
Originally part of a “Crochet-along” designed by Rebecca over at Yarn + Chai, this sophisticated bag is made with a worsted weight 100% cotton yarn. The rope handles and the optional metal embellishment that says “Live in The Moment” really take this project up a notch. You can find the instructions here.
Seaside Handbag
A casual bucket type bag with a bit of boho flair make this the perfect summer bag for a relaxed day at the beach, the zoo, or the local botanical garden. Unstructured and made in rounds from the base up, this simple pattern with a rope tie will be finished in no time. You’re going to want at least two of these bags! The free pattern is here.
Summer Shoulder Bag ~ Granny Squares
A small bag with a ton of personality! This purse is just big enough for a few credit cards, your sunglasses, car keys, and lipstick. A longer strap lets you wear it in a cross body fashion so you don’t even have to take it off! Perfect for a night out with friends or a girls day of shopping. (The beads and the fringe at the bottom are pure awesomeness!) You can find the free pattern here.
Drawstring Bucket Bag
A bucket bag is a great year-round everyday bag. Choose a yarn that you can wash and dry and you’ve got an easy maintenance purse you’ll adore. I love the idea of the premade strap that you can simply unhook and change out to dress up this bag if you choose to. Black, brown, gold, silver—they all work! The designer used leather boot laces for the drawstring, which I thought was quite clever. Make this one in a rainbow of colors and you’ll be set for any outfit you own. You can find the free pattern here.
Sunburst Granny Square Bag
Thirteen squares and a set of leather handles is all you need to put together this fabulous bag. The designer used Cleckheaton California 100% wool in Mauve Glow and a 4mm hook. The yarn colors ensure this bag will go with almost anything–but I’m a jeans kind of gal and this bag totally works for that;-) This is a wool yarn, so some higher maintenance care will be needed, and the handles are not detachable. Those are things you want to think about when you decide on this bag. The free pattern is here.
Did you notice a few of these bags would make GREAT work-in-process bags? I know I sure did;-)
Need a simple crochet market bag? This one is one of my favs.
