Zuzu’s Petals Pattern
If you are looking for a fun, fast, little something to keep around your neck, this just might be the pattern for you! It’s designed by Carina Spencer to mimic the look of a shawl casually draped as a scarf, but without the fuss. Her pattern includes written and charted directions for two gauges of yarn, sport weight (220 yards required) and worsted weight (155 yards required.) The cowl is worked from the top-down and center-front out. The first section is worked back and forth in stockinette with a garter border and eyelet increases on the right and left sides and each side of the center stitch. This part is easy enough for Netflix knitting.
After that, you will be joining to work in the round on circular needles in the lace pattern. The written instructions for the lace pattern are perfect and easy to follow. At this point, I had to concentrate on what I was doing! So, no travel or TV watching for me while I worked on the lace portion. Despite my undivided attention I had to start then frog Round 1 of the lace several times. It wasn’t the pattern, it was my lazy butt refusing to get off the couch and get myself some stitch markers when I joined to work in the round. I did eventually get it right and after that, it was smooth sailing. The finished product as absolutely beautiful!
Project Info
I used Araucania Yarns in their 100% Silk Mana in the Marina colorway. I paid $40 for the skein at my local yarn store. But a bit of internet searching and you should be able to find it a bit cheaper. The silk fiber is absolutely divine against your skin and the slight color variations in the skein are just stunning.
You can find the pattern here. (It’s well worth the $6.00)
Edited to add: The pattern now contains instructions for fingering weight yarn-super bulky!
Hope you are feeling inspired and give this pattern a go! Enjoy!
